The Disobedient Daughter

Lady Elizabeth Victoria Ann Beltane Howard is the eldest child and daughter of Lord Andrew Charles Howard, Fifth Duke of Norfolk Territory and his wife, Lady Karissa Elizabeth Ann, Duchess of Norfolk and Duchess of Bedford Territory.

Lady Elizabeth Victoria Ann Beltane was born on May 1, 2275 at Balmoral Manor whereas the rest of her siblings were born out Beltane Manor.

Lady Elizabeth Victoria Ann Beltane is the golden child that made her father Duke of Norfolk Territory and she would one day succeed him to the Dukedom of Norfolk Territory on Star Base 12.

As Lady Elizabeth Victoria Ann Beltane began to grow up she became difficult, haughty, and proud just as her father once was and Lady Karissa could see it and she would approach her eldest child and daughter and warn her that it wasn’t a good attribute to be too proud.

Just to look at this golden child. One could see that she was  turning out just as her father did as he grew up.

Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR would look at his youngest son, Lord Andrew Charles and then look at his eldest grandchild and warn her “ Don’t turn out like your father, Lady Elizabeth. Your father is my youngest son and child and he was the only one of my six children to defy, disobey, and rebel against me.” 

“Granddaddy. My father and mother have me and I am your first grandchild.” Lady Elizabeth would tell her grandfather.

“This is true Lady Elizabeth.” Lord Charles Andrew JR tells Lady Elizabeth.

"You don’t want to bring shame upon your family, do you Lady Elizabeth?” Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR asks.

“No granddaddy. I don’t want to bring shame upon my family.” Lady Elizabeth answers.

“I have been told that you showed no love and kindness to your first cousin, Lady Charlotte.” Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR explains.

"Lady Charlotte Victoria Maud is also my granddaughter as is Lady Samhain and as is Lord Anthony, Lord Charles Andrew IV and Lady Autumn Bridget are my grandchildren.” Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR explains.

 

“Just as Lord David William Beck Senior is my grand-nephew and his son, Lord David William Beck II is my great-great-grandnephew and as is Lord Richard Edward Howard II is my nephew and his son, Lord Richard Edward Howard III is my grand-nephew.” Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR explains.

 

“Lord Frederick William Howard III is my first cousin as is Lord Richard William Carey is my first cousin thrice removed and Lord Thomas William Howard is my first cousin thrice removed.” Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR explains.

 

“Your great-great-grandfather had three sons and a daughter and they all married and had two children and the result is that Lord Frederick Howard II had Lord Frederick William Howard III, Lady Sophia Charlotte had Lord George and he had Lord Robert and Lord Robert had Lord Richard William, and Lord Andrew Charles had Lord Edward and Lord Edward had Lord Robert and Lord Robert had Lord Thomas William Howard and your paternal grandfather had me, your late Uncle’s Lord Richard Edward Howard Senior who had Lord Richard Edward II who had your dear Lord Richard Edward III, my sister, married but I don’t if she ever had any children, but your late Uncle Lord Edwin had Lady Eliza who had your second cousin, Lord David William Beck and he had your second cousin once removed, Lord David William Beck II and I had your father and your mother and father had you.” Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR explains.

 

“I had other children, Your uncles, Lord Charles Andrew Howard III and Lord Patrick and three daughters, Lady Patricia, Lady Charlotte Augusta, and Lady Frederica Wilhelmina.” Lord Charles Andrew JR explains.

“I love all of my grandchildren. You are all very precious to me.” Lord Charles Andrew JR tells Lady Elizabeth.

 

Despite the pleas of her paternal grandfather, Lady Elizabeth, as she grows up she becomes more and more like her father, Lord Andrew Charles.

Lady Elizabeth at a young age started to throw temper tantrums and make life difficult for her nanny, Barbara. She would stomp her feet, order Lady Samhain around, terrorize her first cousin, Lady Charlotte by ridiculing her and the only one that she wouldn’t attack was her beloved second cousin, Lord Richard Edward III who seemed to have a calming affect on her.

 

In fact, Lord Richard Edward III was the only one who could control or seem to have a positive effect on Lady Elizabeth as she grew up.

When Barbara told Lady Karissa about Lady Elizabeth's outbursts and temper tantrums it was Lady Karissa who told Lord Andrew Charles to talk to his prize child.

Lord Andrew Charles looks at Lady Karissa and he asks “What is Lady Elizabeth doing now?” 

“What isn’t your prize and golden child not doing, Lord Andrew Charles?” Lady Karissa tells him.

“She is throwing fits, temper tantrums, stomping her feet and being an unholy terror.” Lady Karissa tells him.

“Do something with your heiress before I make you minus one child.” Lady Karissa tells him.

“I don’t want to upset your dear father who had to put up with your rebellious spirit.” Lady Karissa states.

“I have two other children to worry about if you remember I have Lady Samhain and Lord Anthony.” Lady Karissa reminds him.

“I will go to Lady Elizabeth and discipline myself and if need be I will send to my father’s manor in York. He seems to have a positive effect on her.” Lord Andrew Charles tells her.

Lord Andrew looks at Lady Karissa and says, “ I don’t believe you would hurt Lady Elizabeth. She was the daughter that you longed for.” 

“Hmm, well I have Lady Samhain.” Lady Karissa tells him “ Lady Elizabeth is your golden child and she helped you to get the title of Duke of Norfolk Territory.” 

Lord Andrew Charles gets out from behind his desk and he walks down to corridor of Beltane Manor, up the stairs, and to the nursery where the children share and he walks in and Barbara rises to her feet and she curtsy and “Your Grace, we weren’t expecting you to visit today.” Barbara tells him.

“I have come to find out about Lady Elizabeth and if she has become a discipline problem for you Barbara?” Lord Andrew Charles asks.

“I won’t lie to Your Grace. Lady Elizabeth has become very difficult to handle nowadays.” Barbara confesses.

“When she doesn’t get her way. She throws temper tantrums, she screams, stomps her feet, and terrorizes Lady Samhain and when Lady Charlotte comes over she hurts her feelings.” Barbara states.

“I have sent her to the corner and have forbidden her to see Lord Richard Edward III if he comes over and she threatens to tell Lord Howard on me Sir.” Barbara explains.

“Where is Lady Elizabeth now?” Lord Andrew Charles asks.

 

“Lady Elizabeth is in the adjourning nursery playing with Lady Samhain and Lord Anthony, Your Grace.” Barbara tells him.

Lord Andrew Charles walks into the adjourning nursery and he sees Lady Elizabeth sitting with her younger sister and younger brother playing with them and he walks into the nursery.

Lady Samhain and Lord Anthony rise with Nina and they curtsy and bow to him, but Lady Elizabeth remains seated and doesn’t rise to her feet.

“Excuse me Miss Priss. You are supposed to rise to your feet when I walk into the room. I am Duke of Norfolk Territory.” Lord Andrew Charles informs Lady Elizabeth.

Lady Elizabeth remains seated but she turns around and she looks at her father “ Excuse me father, I am your heiress to the Dukedom of Norfolk  Territory and without me You wouldn’t have become Duke of Norfolk Territory.” Lady Elizabeth at age six years old informs him.

 

Lord Andrew Charles looks at Lady Elizabeth “You are not Duchess of Norfolk Territory yet, Lady Elizabeth.” Lord Andrew Charles tells her.

“Give me time I will be and I will be a better Duchess than you were Duke.” Lady Elizabeth retorts.

“Don’t use that tone of voice with me, Lady Elizabeth. What is this I hear that you belittle your first cousin, Lady Charlotte and you belittle Lady Samhain?” Lord Andrew Charles asks.

“I don’t like Lady Charlotte. Her mother is a common courtesan and as far as my little sister is concerned she is my mother’s favorite child.” Lady Elizabeth informs him.

“Listen here Lady Elizabeth. Lady Samhain is Duchess of Clarence Territory and it appears that you are jealous of her.” Lord Andrew Charles states.

“Do you think it is a piece of cake governing a territory on Star Base 12?” Lord Andrew Charles asks.

“If you think so why do I summon your cousin, Lord Richard William Carey, Lord Richard Edward Howard II, Lord Frederick William Howard III, Lord Thomas William Howard, your grandfather, Lord Charles Andrew Howard JR along with your two Uncles, Lord Charles Andrew Howard III and Lord Patrick William Howard to Beltane Manor and they will inform you it is not easy.” Lord Andrew Charles states.

“It is true that Lord Anthony and Lady Samhain are already a Duke and Duchess, and Lord Richard Edward III, Lady Frederica, Lady Charlotte and you must wait your turn.” Lord Andrew Charles states.

“I am not jealous of them.” Lady Elizabeth retorts, “ Those territories are nothing.” 

“Lady Elizabeth. I have granted them to your relatives in the name of your great-great-great-grandfather, Lord Patrick William Howard who came here in 2165.” Lord Andrew Charles states.

“I don’t want to see what your great-great-great grandfather started in 2165 go to disappear. He worked very hard to rebuild his life here on Star Base 12 from War Torn Planet Earth.” Lord Andrew Charles explains.

“Your great–great-great-grandfather built this Dukedom with his hard work.” Lord Andrew Charles explains.

Lady Elizabeth looks up and says “ What do I know about my great-great-great-grandfather. He died before I was born.”

“You know your grandfather and he is his great-grandson and you love your grandfather don’t you Lady Elizabeth?” Lord Andrew Charles asks.

“I love my grandfather very much.” Lady Elizabeth cries, “One day I will lose him.” 

“My father was born in 2208, Lady Elizabeth. He is still alive to see four of his grandchildren be born. He was so happy the day you arrived. He cried when he held you in his arms.” Lord Andrew Charles tells her.

“In fact it was your grandfather who was the first one to hold you in his arms.” Lord Andrew Charles states.

“I was second and your dear mother who sacrificed everything to have you was the last person to hold you in her arms.” Lord Andrew Charles tells her.

“I am going to make sure that you never see your second cousin, Lord Richard Edward Howard III again if you don’t stop this behavior of yours.” Lord Andrew Charles states “I will send you to York to be with your grandfather.” 

“I won’t go father. “ Lady Elizabeth screams “ I won’t be separated from my cousin, Lord Richard Edward III. One day I will marry him.” 

“Without us you won’t have a grandchild.” Lady Elizabeth tells him.

“I hate you father! I hate you father. I want a new father. I wonder if Lord Richard William Carey will adopt me as his child.” Lady Elizabeth screams at him.

Lord Richard William Carey with Lady Karissa hears the screaming and yelling coming from the nursery and Lord Richard William Carey with Lady Karissa rush into the nursery and Lady Karissa looks at her eldest daughter “ Stop this Lady Elizabeth or I will put you across my lap and beat you black and blue.” 

“I will make sure you can’t sit down for at least two weeks and on top of that I will make sure you don’t see Lord Richard Edward III until you are 16 years old.” Lady Karissa tells her.

“How dare you upset my other children. You are not my only child, Lady Elizabeth. You are my oldest child but you are not my only child. I have two other children to think about.” Lady Karissa tells her.

“You apologize to your father at this moment about your poor conduct.” Lady Karissa tells her.

“Why can’t I have a new father momma?” Lady Elizabeth asks.

“It is not that simple and easy, Lady Elizabeth. You are stuck with the one you have.” Lady Karissa explains, “Grant it he is far from perfect and I am the first one to admit it.” 

“I admit he is a poor excuse of a husband and a poor excuse of a father, but I didn’t raise him. Blame it on your paternal grandmother.” Lady Karissa explains.

“Cousin Lord Richard William. Can’t you adopt me and make me your daughter?” Lady Elizabeth asks her cousin.

“I wish I could, but I don’t think your father or mother would approve. I tell you what Lady Elizabeth. I will make you my honorary daughter.” Lord Richard William tells her.

“You must do me one favor, Lady Elizabeth. You must apologize to your father, mother, Lady Charlotte, Lady Samhain and Lord Anthony.” Lord Richard explains.

Lady Elizabeth looks at Lord Richard William who is her favorite third cousin, and says “ Alright Cousin Lord Richard I will apologize just for you.” 

Lord Richard William takes Lady Elizabeth by the hand and they walk over to where Lord Andrew Charles is standing and Lady Elizabeth curtsy to her father “ I am sorry father.”  Lady Elizabeth apologizes.

“I accept your apology, Lady Elizabeth. Why did you do it for my first cousin thrice removed?” Lord Andrew Charles asks.

“Lord Richard and I share the same great-great-grandfather, Lord Frederick William Howard, father. Whereas he is your great-grandfather.” Lady Elizabeth explains.

“It is true Lady Elizabeth. Lord Richard’s great-grandmother was your great-grandfather’s sister,” Lord Andrew Charles states, “Just as Lord Thomas William is your third cousin, as he is the great-grandson of Lord Andrew Charles Howard, the youngest son of Lord Frederick William Howard.” 

“Lord Frederick William Howard III is my first cousin twice removed as he is your grandfather’s first cousin.” Lord Andrew Charles states.

“I am sorry mama. I love you. Please give me a new father.” Lady Elizabeth begs.

“If I could I would but I can’t. You stuck with him my dear Lady Elizabeth.” Lady Karissa tells her.

“Father, did my grandmother love you?” Lady Elizabeth asks her father.

“I don’t know if my mother loved me, Lady Elizabeth. I rarely saw her but I saw your grandfather more than I saw my mother.” Lord Andrew Charles states “Your two Aunts raised me.” 

“I lost Lady Pauline when I was 3 years old and when I was 13 years old I lost your Aunt Lady Charlotte Augusta. All I had was my dear father who I love most in the world.” Lord Andrew Charles answers.

“Don’t my Uncles love you?” Lady Elizabeth asks.

“We love each other, Lady Elizabeth. Not in the sense of the word that you think. We love each other as kin.” Lord Andrew Charles states.

“I love my brothers and they know their duty to the family.” Lord Andrew Charles states.

“Do you love Lord Richard?” Lady Elizabeth asks.

“Of course he is my cousin, Lady Elizabeth and he is the second highest peer on Star Base 12 next to me.” Lord Andrew Charles states.

“Do you love my momma? I don’t know why my momma would have married a man like you?” Lady Elizabeth asks.

“I love your mother more than my life.” Lord Andrew Charles tells Lady Elizabeth. “Your mother is impossible just like you.” 

“Don’t bad mouth my momma.” Lady Elizabeth asks, “She is a good person.” 

“I am not bad mouthing your mother, Lady Elizabeth. Do you think your cousin would allow me to do that?” Lord Andrew Charles asks.

“Don’t worry I won’t let your father bad mouth your mother. She is tops with me.” Lord Richard tells Lady Elizabeth.

“I love all my children, Lady Elizabeth. Do you actually think I would have had any of you if I didn’t love you and want the best for you.” Lord Andrew Charles asks his daughter.

“Lord Andrew Charles. Lady Elizabeth is too young to understand all this nonsense.” Lady Karissa explains.

Lady Elizabeth walks over to her little sister and she hugs her “I am sorry Lady Samhain and Lord Anthony. You are my sister and brother.”  Lady Elizabeth tells them.

Lady Samhain smiles at her eldest sister “It is alright Lady Elizabeth.” Lady Samhain tells her “Lord Anthony and I forgive you.” 

Lady Elizabeth holds Lord Anthony and embraces Lady Samhain and she tells her father “ I will apologize to Lady Charlotte.” 

“Listen, Lady Elizabeth. I don’t care for Lady Victoria who is Lady Charlotte;s mother but Lady Charlotte’s father is my oldest brother’s daughter and she is my niece as is Lord Charles Andrew IV is my nephew and Lady Autumn Bridget is my niece too.” Lord Andrew Charles tells her.

“I love my cousin, Lord Richard Edward Howard III, father and one day I will marry him.” Lady Elizabeth tells him, “We will give my grandfather his first great-grandchild and we will name her after my mother, Lady Karissa.” Lady Elizabeth tells him.

Lady Karissa smiles at her daughter, “ I am touched that you love me so much, Lady Elizabeth.” Lady Karissa tells her eldest daughter.

“First grow up and if you want to marry your second cousin I am sure that your grandfather would like nothing more to see that happen when he sees you marrying his late brother’s grandson.” Lady Karissa tells her.

“We will name our first daughter in honor of you momma and she will be like us.” Lady Elizabeth states.

“I have no doubt that you will make me proud of you when your time comes but until then  let your father govern this miserable territory.” Lady Karissa asks.

“Oh! Your time will come when you become Duchess of Norfolk Territory.” Lady Karissa tells her eldest daughter.

“Do I have to momma?” Lady Elizabeth asks.

“No. Lady Elizabeth, but it is expected of you. You are Lord Charles Andrew Howard Senior's oldest great-grandchild.” Lady Karissa states.

“My father has Lady Samhain and Lord Anthony.” Lady Elizabeth explains.

“Talk to your grandfather about it, Lady Elizabeth. You don’t want to let him down, do you.” Lady Karissa asks.

“I love my grandpa.” Lady Elizabeth tells her mother.

“Indeed Lord Charles Andrew JR is a fine man and I only wish that his youngest son had taken after him but he didn’t.” Lady Karissa tells her daughter.

'I am stuck with your father as you are until you come of age and then I will divorce him, Lady Elizabeth and remarry Lord Richard William Carey.’ Lady Karissa explains.

“I still have several more children to have for your father, and Lord Richard William and I will give you a sister and brother.” Lady Karissa promises.

“When momma?” Lady Elizabeth asks.

“Hmm, good question to ask Lord Richard William.” Lady Karissa explains.

Lady Elizabeth looks at her third cousin, Lord Richard William Carey and asks “When are mama and you going to give me a new sister?”

“We are working on it, Lady Elizabeth.” Lord Richard assures her.

Lady Elizabeth smiles when she hears the news and she looks at her sister, Lady Samhain and her brother, Lord Anthony and says “ Come on sis and bro, let’s go play.” and with that the war comes to an end.

Lady Karissa looks at Lord Andrew Charles and Lord Richard William and tells them “If I was a drinking lady I would get drunk but since I am not I will settle for a glass of wine.” and with that she curtsy to them and she exits the nursery.
